Terms of Service

You must be at least 13 years old to hold a LIECOSYS account. Accounts for people between 13 and 17 aren’t open yet while we build protections for younger users. Until they are, an existing account held by someone under 18 can only message and share with people it’s already connected with, and can’t create public links. If we have reason to believe an account belongs to someone under 18, it gets the same limits while we check, and it’s paused if they’re confirmed under 18. Your age is checked server-side and is never trusted from client input alone.

Your username is your identity on LIECOSYS — 5 to 20 characters, lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only. Usernames under 5 characters exist as a separate, purchasable tier and aren’t available through open signup. You can change your username twice per year, with a 30-day cooldown between changes. A list of reserved and offensive terms — including pattern-matched variations, not just exact matches — is enforced server-side and can’t be claimed as a username.

You’re responsible for keeping your credentials secure. LIECOSYS supports password sign-in with two-factor authentication — an authenticator app or an emailed code — or a passkey (hardware, device-bound, or synced) as a passwordless alternative. Password is never your only option once two-factor authentication is turned on.

You may have up to 15 active sessions at once — a limit chosen to protect you, not to save on infrastructure: it caps how much damage a lost device or a leaked session can do. You can review and manage your credentials, passkeys, and active sessions at any time from myaccount.liecosys.xyz.

Every account reserves a free @liecosys.xyz mail address for LIECOSYS Email, which is not live yet: no mail can be sent or received through it. Once it launches, it’s covered by this policy and the Acceptable Use Policy the same as the rest of your account.

LIECOSYS Messaging is paused and not generally available right now. Nothing stored with it is deleted or opened while it’s paused. These terms will be updated before it returns.

Every account can use LIECOSYS Notes, live at notes.liecosys.xyz, for encrypted note-taking — your content is encrypted on your device before it ever reaches us, and we cannot read it. The free tier includes 50MB of encrypted storage; additional storage is available as a paid upgrade, described in "Paid features and billing" below.

LIECOSYS Drive is paused and not generally available right now. Nothing stored with it is deleted or opened while it’s paused. These terms will be updated before it returns.

LIECOSYS Photos is paused and not available right now. These terms will be updated before it returns.

LIECOSYS also supports organization accounts — a separate account type, held by a company or group rather than a person, managed at orgaccount.liecosys.xyz. Organization members are added by an owner or admin and see only what their role permits; an organization account is otherwise subject to these same terms.

Changing your username releases your old username@liecosys.xyz address once the change takes effect. Any message sent to it afterward is not delivered to you, and you are responsible for anything lost as a result. If that address ever had an active mailbox, it is never given to another account. You must explicitly accept this before a username change goes through, and that acceptance is logged.

LIECOSYS reclaims a username for only one of three reasons: it impersonates someone, a valid trademark or legal claim covers it, or it breaks the reserved-name rules. A reclaimed username may be reassigned. Before anything changes, the affected account gets a notice with the reason and a deadline of up to 24 hours to pick a new username. If the deadline passes, the username is replaced with a system-generated one. The account keeps working and nothing else is touched. Picking a new username after a reclaim is free: it doesn’t count toward your two changes per year and doesn’t start a cooldown. You are shown this as a standing notice while choosing a username, before you can proceed.

If you change away from a username you purchased as a premium username, it opens up for anyone to register 7 days after the change takes effect. You have a 3-day priority window from the moment you change away from it to reclaim it before it becomes generally available. You must separately accept this when changing away from a premium username, in addition to the acceptance above.

Your personal LIECOSYS account and its core account features are free forever — nothing about holding or using one is ever gated behind payment. Some things built on top of an account are paid: LIECOSYS Organizations, a Sign in with LIECOSYS integration for your own app, and an optional LIECOSYS Notes or LIECOSYS Drive storage upgrade (which also covers LIECOSYS Photos, sharing the same storage pool) above each product’s free tier. Current rates are listed at /pricing/.

Payments for any paid feature are processed by a third-party payment processor acting as merchant of record. Cancellation, billing-error, and refund terms are covered in full in our Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms by reference.

Everything you put into LIECOSYS (notes, files, photos, messages and anything else) stays yours. We claim no ownership of it.

To run the service, you give LIECOSYS a limited permission to store, back up, transmit and show your content to you and to the people you choose to share it with. That’s all it covers. We don’t use your content to train AI, target ads or analyse you, or for anything else, and we never sell or sublicense it. Most of it is encrypted on your device before it reaches us, so we can’t read it anyway.

This permission lasts as long as you keep the content with us, and ends 30 days after you delete it or your account. That’s how long the recovery window and our backups take to clear. Copies other people already received from you are theirs to manage.

LIECOSYS’s software, design, name and logo belong to us. As long as you follow these Terms, you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use LIECOSYS. You may not copy, sell or resell the service or any part of it; reverse engineer it, except where the law allows you to regardless; scrape it or access it by automated means, except through an API we offer for that purpose; or get around its limits, security or access controls. Reporting a security issue to security@liecosys.xyz in good faith isn’t a breach of this section.

If you send us ideas or suggestions, we can use them freely without owing you payment. If you’d like public credit for an idea we use, tell us and we’ll credit you. Any personal data in your feedback is still covered by our Privacy Policy.

Some things connect to services we don’t run: the payment processor that handles paid features, and apps you sign into with Sign in with LIECOSYS. Their own terms and privacy policies cover what they do, and we’re not responsible for them. A Sign in with LIECOSYS app only gets what you approve on the consent screen.

Using LIECOSYS means agreeing to our Acceptable Use Policy — what you can and can’t do with your account. Read it in full here.

If someone tells us that a link you share through LIECOSYS shares their work without permission, we handle it under our Copyright Policy. A person decides every case. If a notice is upheld, we switch off that link only; your files are never deleted or opened. You can answer with a counter-notice from your account.

Two upheld notices against your account within 12 months turn off your public links and stop you making new ones for 12 months. A third upheld notice during that time makes it permanent. Sharing with named people is not affected.

Repeated failed sign-in attempts trigger an escalating protective response, including notifying your recovery address before anything more restrictive happens. This is a protection, not a punishment, and it can’t be turned off.

We may suspend or terminate an account that violates the Acceptable Use Policy or these Terms. Where reasonably possible, you’ll be notified of the reason. Deleted accounts have a 30-day recovery window before permanent removal; your username is released 90 days after that unless the account is under an active abuse investigation, in which case relevant data is held under legal hold until it concludes.

Sexually explicit content isn’t allowed in any LIECOSYS product. When a report shows it to us, we remove what we can reach and send a warning; doing it again means a suspension, and continuing after a suspension means the account is closed permanently. See the Acceptable Use Policy.

Extended inactivity can eventually lead to suspension and deletion, but always in staged notices sent well in advance — an account is never removed without warning.

These notices only work if they reach you. It’s your responsibility to keep your recovery email — and your phone number, if you’ve added one — current. We can’t warn you before a security or deletion action if that channel is dead.

LIECOSYS is under active development. We may add, change, or remove features, and we’ll aim to give notice of changes that materially affect how your account works.

If we ever shut down LIECOSYS or any product in it, we’ll give at least 90 days’ notice, by email to every affected account that has a recovery email and inside the product itself. For the whole notice period you can still sign in and download or export everything you’ve stored there, and nothing new is charged for that product. After it closes, the data it held is permanently deleted.

We work hard to keep LIECOSYS secure and available, but we provide it as it is and as available. We don’t promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free or right for any particular purpose. This doesn’t remove any guarantee the law gives you that can’t be excluded.

To the extent the law allows, LIECOSYS isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits, lost business or lost opportunities. Our total liability to you for all claims together is limited to the greater of what you paid LIECOSYS in the 12 months before the claim, or €100.

None of this limits liability for fraud, deliberate harm, gross negligence, death or personal injury, or anything else the law doesn’t allow to be limited, and it doesn’t take away your rights as a consumer.

The safety password, the decoy account it opens, and Seal protect your data. They don’t protect you. They can’t stop someone who already knows these features exist, who examines your device, or who compares what they see with other records about you. You use them at your own risk. Using a decoy to mislead the police, a court or any other lawful authority may be a crime where you are. Whatever happens to you because you used these features, legal consequences included, is your responsibility, not LIECOSYS’s. This is the same in every country.

If someone makes a claim against LIECOSYS because of content you shared, or because you broke the law, these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, you’ll cover our reasonable costs of dealing with it, including legal fees. This never applies to ordinary use of LIECOSYS, and never where consumer law doesn’t allow it.

These Terms, with the policies they link to, are the whole agreement between you and LIECOSYS about the service.

If a court finds any part of them invalid, the rest still applies.

If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up.

You can’t transfer your rights under these Terms to anyone else. We can transfer ours, for example to the company that will run LIECOSYS, but only to someone who takes on these Terms as they are, and we’ll tell you first.

We aren’t responsible for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as natural disasters, widespread internet outages or government action.

We send notices by email to your recovery address and inside the product. Send notices to us at legal@liecosys.xyz.

These Terms are written in English and translated. If a translation differs from the English, the English applies, unless the translation is more favourable to you. In that case, its reading applies.

These terms are versioned. Material changes are announced with a new version number before they take effect, and you’re asked to accept them the next time you open a LIECOSYS product.
