Copyright Policy
What this covers
This policy explains what happens when someone tells us that a link shared through LIECOSYS shares work they own without their permission. It applies to every LIECOSYS service where a person can share something with others.
Files, notes and photos in LIECOSYS are end-to-end encrypted. We can’t open them, scan them or read them, and nothing in this process changes that. What we can act on is a link: the share that makes something reachable by other people.
Before you send a notice
Send a notice only if you own the copyright in the work, or you’re authorized to act for the person who does. Quoting, criticism, commentary, parody and other uses the law allows without permission are not infringement, so think about them before you send.
A notice switches off someone else’s link. Sending one you know is false can cost that person their access and can make you liable to them. We track notices that turn out to be unfounded (see “Misuse” below).
What a notice needs
Use the form at the end of this page. A notice needs: the full link to what you’re reporting; a description of your work that lets us identify it, with a link to where it’s published if there is one; your name and an email address where we can reach you; and two statements, that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by you, your agent or the law, and that the notice is accurate and you’re the owner or authorized to act for them.
Notices missing any of these are rejected. One notice covers one link. Send a separate notice for each.
What happens after you send it
You get an email with a reference number. A person reads every notice, and nothing is switched off automatically.
If we uphold the notice, we switch off the link you reported and nothing else. The file, note or photo itself is never deleted, opened or changed, and the owner keeps it. We email the owner the link, the work you named and the date. We never give them your name or email address.
If we don’t uphold it, we email you and nothing happens to the link.
If you think a notice was wrong
If we switched off one of your links and you have the right to share what it shares, you can send a counter-notice from the Copyright page in your account at myaccount.liecosys.xyz. It needs a statement explaining why, and a statement that you’re making it in good faith.
We forward your statement, without your name or account details, to the person who sent the notice. Ten days later the link comes back on, unless they show us before then that they have started court action against you over it. If they have, the link stays off until the court decides or the case ends.
Repeat cases
Two upheld notices against the same account within 12 months switch off every public link that account has and stop it making new ones for 12 months. A third upheld notice while that block is running makes it permanent.
A notice that is later reversed by a counter-notice doesn’t count. The block applies only to public links. Sharing with named people, and everything else in the account, keeps working.
Misuse
If notices sent from the same email address keep turning out to be unfounded, we can stop accepting notices from that address for six months. We decide this case by case; it never happens automatically. We only handle a notice once its sender has confirmed their email address.
What we keep about you
We store your name and email address encrypted, and use them only to handle your notice and to contact you about it. We delete them 24 months after the notice is closed. The rest of the record (the link, the work described, our decision and any counter-notice) is deleted 36 months after it’s closed.
We don’t share your details with the account owner or anyone else, except when a court order requires it. See the Privacy Policy for how we handle legal requests.
Send a notice
Fill in every field. If you’d rather write to us, email legal@liecosys.xyz with the same information. The form is faster, and it gets you a reference number straight away.
